I learned after my first two experiences with vanity publishers to avoid them. I took both of my book back.

Set up my own publishing company and put out all of my books under that company. I gave up trying to get my money back for lousy service.

Original review Nov 05, 2020
I've been the subject of a scam by a company like this. Almost all vanity presses overcharge for everything they do while happily taking your money. And don't ask for a refund. You won't get it as their contract is so specific that you'll never fit the criteria to get your money back. 1. If a publishing company calls you. Listen. But when they ask for money, say no thank you and hang up. 2. If they email you, mark it as spam. 3. If they persist in calling you, mark the phone number as spam. 4. If you made the mistake of signing up for an overpriced promise, that money is gone. You will never see it again, so move on and learn from it. 5. If your book is still being listed on Amazon and other place, have it delisted or contact seller's support to get control of the book. You can take it back. Let the sellers know the company is a scam and you haven't gotten any of the royalties if any books were sold. They can help you in redoing your book. 6. Never, ever, publish with a vanity company unless you contacted them first, checked out complaints, and what other authors know about the company. (The only Vanity company that was honest in what they actually do was Outskirts and I found them overpriced on editing (bad editors) and marketing, most of which you can do yourself.) 7. Learn to do everything yourself. Don't pay shysters to do it for you. You can get covers for $100 or less that are custom-made. You can do the formatting yourself with a template. You can learn how to do a publicity release, set up ads, and market the book. 8. Copyright your work (In the US $59 online.) 9. Look for classes that are free or low cost to learn how to publish yourself. It really doesn't take that much time and is definitely cheaper and you get paid more. 10. If you want to have someone else do most of it for you, write a really, really go book, get an agent and sell it to a reputable publisher/

Pros:
  • Will offer you all these really nice things for a price
  • Will publish your book
Cons:
  • Contract is set up so you can never get a refund
  • Are way overpriced for what they offer
  • Forget customer service once you pay

User's recommendation: DO NOT use this company or any other vanity publishing house that calls you. If you want only a few books published, look locally for a publishing company that has a physical address and a real person to talk to.

I knew something was fishy about this company

I also published a book with Green Ivy and did not receive everything I paid $2300-**** for. I called Jay for a clear explanation and he was very rude and mean. However prior to me signing on he was very nice. I told him one day your crookedness would catch up with you. I wish I could get my money back....

I paid about $4000 to publish a book with Green Ivy in 2018. I received about 60 copies, which I distributed to the authors and others, The publisher never returned my calls and to date,I don’t know if the book sold otherwise. I never received any royalties. I want to be free of them so that I can distribute the book. Any suggestions?

Disappointing

Green Ivy Publishing - Disappointing

Contracted with them on my first book in 2015 I later found out that they had closed one -year after publishing my book, Little Timmy and I only received one check for $4.00. Never heard from them again but somehow they are still selling my book on Amazon collecting royalties that belong to me.

I paid over two thousand dollars to get my book published.

I feel so deceived by Green Ivy Publishing.

My dreams are shattered knowing that all Green Ivy took my money. How can they get away with scamming people out of their hard earn money?

Sometimes you don't catch the bad guys until something goes wrong by that time its too late.

Customer service? What customer service?!

Green Ivy Publishing - Customer service? What customer service?!

They actually did produce a finished book for me. It was published in 2016.

I am happy with the editing and overall look even though it took longer to finish than I was told it would. Since then, I haven't had any issues ordering copies for myself, but it's all done through email without talking to an actual person. They happily charge my card and a box of books arrives right away. My problem is that the book is being sold on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Green Ivy's websites and I have never received any statement of copies sold and certainly not any money.

Every contact number I had for Green Ivy no longer works and the only time I get an email response is if I place an order.

I wasn't expecting to get rich, but I would like to remove my book from being sold on these websites if I don't see any income from it. At this point, I have no idea if the contract I had with them is still valid because I can't contact them!

Is there any class action suit for writers against Green Ivy Publishing?

If there are any writers that have a lawsuit against Green Ivy Publishing please get in touch with me because I would like to join.

I published with them and I did see my book listed on Amazon and other publishing sources. I never received a nickel of royalties and now they will not return my calls, emails...etc.

There must be other writers out there like me. I dealt with Ruth Howe, Jay Caliendo, and an editor.

They did send me my author copies and I ordered more for $5.00 a book.

I am eager to act so please contact me. There must be other authors with experiences like me. I am very motivated to act. Please contact me.

I gave 2500 to Green ivy to do front cover , back cover and edits. I had no dreams of Grandeur just excited to finish a project. They did a great job with the cover i was so happy with their service . Finally, final edits and id have a physical book ! All of a sudden Radio silence . No phone calls returned , no email , not one peep . I googled and realized they closed down( I guess) Self publishing is the modern day snake oil sales men !

Civility at Green Ivy? Right!

In a nutshell: Very enthusiastic about my book until they got my funds. Letter from Michelle about how great they are and aren't I lucky!! Was lied to repeatedly about and they just did whatever they wanted. Getting the cover done, I sent them a cover Complete with artwork and ready to go. The art guy created a different cover - looks ok. I first received my edited copy to review. Only half of the book had been edited. The rest was lost. They eventually found my manuscript Just as I was about to send a new copy to them. No apologies. Working with Darleen was working with as professional a person as I've ever encountered. We collaborated and the end copy was really fine. I was surprised to learn that the book had been published. My six month project - Eight months maximum!!! took 19 months Plus one month that it had been published and I didn't know. When they vanished, they vanished with my ISBN number, any accounting that they may have done and my royalties. I am making changes to the book and shortening the name of the Title to Civility: "It's Easier to Get Along!" and adding four scenarios. I already have received a new ISBN number. Relatively speaking, I guess I am impacted less than many. These folks should be strung up by their thumbs.
